Talking Hacking Central and South America

PROJECT: MotoNomadas-Explorando el Sur

WHAT IS IT: This project was born as a result of the desire to live our lives to the maximum, taking advantage of we are still alive, young and healthy. So, because of this, we have decided to embark ourselves in one of the greatest adventures of our lives....CROSS PART OF THE WORLD ON MOTORCYCLE!!!
WHO: The team is composed by 4 members:

1) Efrain Martinez is in charge of riding and maintaining in good shape members 3 and 4

2) Ileana La Torre is in charge of the photography, part of the navigation, and maintenance of the website

3) Morcega, our 2007 Suzuki DL1000, is going to haul us along all the miles which we are going to be crossing

4) Morceguinho, our CSM side-car, is in charge to load the majority of our equipment besides of being in charge of the security and comfort of Ileana

WHEN: The plan is to leave Charleston SC, USA in November 2010 and return whenever we have to.

WHERE: As everything is going to go well, we hoped to be visiting the 21 countries that conform Central and the South America.

WHY: Besides wanting to have the chance to get to know other cultures, people, places and experience new adventures; we decided "why not" make our motorcycle adventure a fundraising campaign to help the Bruce Organisation in the fulfillment of its objectives to help to educate street kids and eradicate poverty in Latin America.

We are doing a fundrainsing through our website MotoNomadas - Home and by selling MotoNomadas T-shirts. All the money collected will be used to buy basic school supplies needed in the centers located in different points throughout Central and South America.

The route of this trip will be drawn up with the purpose of to be able to visit and give your contributions in person to these children who have true needs.

Smile

In our continuing effort to help street kids, we have partnered with the "Pulsera Project" which helps kids in Nicaragua. Please check out MotoNomadas - Home home page, and read the story of how these two projects have come together. Look for "Alone we can do little things; together we can do so much" Enjoy!

Cool Rig !

I am going to suggest you carry a clutch slave cylinder for the Vstrom.

It was the *only* part on my DL1000 which failed on my 20,000+ mile ride from Colorado to S. America.

I'd also get an ethanol tolerant fuel filter if you plan on hitting Brazil. Most of the plastic ones will melt in the ethanol.

Have Fun !!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
