RUTA 40 Best Month

Hi

Heading to SA in November this year with a one way ticket and a Honda Falcon. Wondering the best time to ride the RUTA 40?

Thanks

December January and February will avoid cold temperatures and give you the best shot at not having too much rain.

But as far as I know there is no way to avoid the wind. Spring and summer are the windiest, ie Nov through March. But with 18 hours of sunlight you can pick your travel time.

What are you doing for luggage on the Falcon?

Cheers,

The sooner the better is the best time as there are a lot of sections that are being tarmacd over and the reason this road is legendary will be lost foreve
In the roadworks the road is diverted across adjacent land that has had the top surface scraped off and is as rough as you like, not much fun.

I did it in January 2009, and it was fairly breezy, but I have a theory that the wind gets stronger after 1-2pm, so leaving early in the morning may help you to stay upright for longer (I was blown off the bike and into a ditch about 100km south of Gobernador Gregores. Didn't hurt though.)

Hey James

Using the Tribag Cortech Trailmaster saddlebag system as recommended to me by other members of the HUBB. You thinking of a Falcon aswell?

Thanks Everyone

I was there in December '09, and the weather was pretty damned good, albeit a bit windy (but I guess that never changes...)... I think that's kinda the height of their summer season down there, so give or take a month you won't be doing too bad.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
