Route from Santa Cruz, Bolivia to Brasilia
 

Looking for the best route from Santa Cruz, Bolivia to Brasilia. Road conditions, gas availability, border crossing info, places to stay along the way .... the works. In Sucre Bolivia now, looking to do the trip in April or May.

This should be straightforward. There are two border crossings for you to choose from. Depending which road you take and what you would like to see on the Brazilian side. The Pantanal. South side or north side? Most direct route in Brazil would be the upper road. Some parts of the Brazilian road to Brasilia in Mato Grosso are really potholed, but the more east you get, the better the roads get. We have not yet driven the upper road on the Bolivian side I don't know if that is dirtroad or not? And if so, you are asking for conditions that are 6 months away for you. By now you should know that in 6 months a lot can happen with the rain and all. I would get more info in 6 months in Santa Cruz if I were you on the northern route, if you would opt for that one. But the lower road, Santa Cruz to Corumba is excellent, asphalt all the way, and new. The northern route would bring you to San Mathias. Customs at the Corumba border is straightforward, more organized on the Brazilian side of course. From there on, if you want to make good time its a long way on mostly uninteresting highways in Brazil. Or you could take long detours and enjoy. We spent 5 months in Mato Grosso state last year! Excellent, hardly any tourists [apart from Pantanal and Chapada de Guimareis].
