The road from Iquiqe on rout 1 to Antofagasta
 

We are heading South from Peru to Chile. Intend to get to Antofagusta (my whife will take acontact flight home, while I head to the rest of my thrip to TDF) The Q is. what is the quality of road No 1 that goes along the shore? to take it, or should we choose road No 5?

In 2007 RT1 from Iquique to Tocopilla was new and in great shape.
Nice route aloang the coast, better than RT5!
I can't say what the road is from Tocopilla south to Antofagasta, but judging from my travels in Chile it sould be good.
