Riding Gear Question for Chile/Argentina TDF
 

Hi. Heading down to TDF in february from Santiago. Not sure exactly what type of riding gear I should pack. I know it get pretty windiy and cold the further south you go. Presently have a Cycloak jacket and fieldsheer pants that I've used here in jersey down to 45 degrees(5 degrees C). Would this do?

Also what kind of gloves would you guys recommend for such a trip?

Any other gear that would be considered essential that could be overlooked?

I'm trying to pack as light as possible while still feeling comfortable. Any info would be greatly appreciated as well as direction to prior threads that I may have overlooked in my search.

Howdy from Texas----Leaving Saturday for Santiago myself. This will be my 4th trip down to Ushuaia. Take what you would wear for Prudhoe Bay or Nordcapp. I've been rained on, snowed on, blown down by the wind, and even sunburned. So, you can never tell. The electrics are handy because of the wind, it just sucks all the warmth from your clothes. This might be the best trip of your life, so dress warm and dry and have fun.

Didn't realize that the electrics would be highly recommended. Curtis, what would you recommend in terms of gloves???

Howdy---Gloves??? I'm really picky about gloves. I take 3 pair---light weight for hot days----medium weight which I wear most of the time----heavy weight isulated. I also carry a light weight glove liner for really really cold. If my hands are warm I'm good. Make sure your heavy ones are waterproof. Brands?? Does't matter, whatever works for you. I would think whatever you wear in the winter where you live in the northeast would be fine.

I just came back from TDF. I didn't bother spending $ on electric gear. i'm a firm beliver on layers since there is always a small chance the electric might break. Witht the proper layers you'll be fine.

Regarding gloved i bought from a very expensive gortex motorcycle winter gloves. I top using them fairly quickly and started using a pair of Marmott (sp?) cross country skiing gloves that were less expensive and worked much better.
