Around the Americas...

Hola Amigos,
Yup, it's another trip around latin America. I'm planning on leaving the states mid october and thinking 8-10 months heading mostly down the west coast of central and south America and back up the east (lots of excursions in land in between). I'm also hopping to make parts of it into a culinary tour. I'm a photographer by trade and I'd like to do a photo journal on the different marcados and street foods and cooking techniques.
I'm still in the early stages of planning my route, and am looking to y'alls for some advice and some must see places as well as food and exotics eats. And if you're from central of south america, I'd love to meet up on the way. I'm not going on any time schedule and will happily change course for the right reasons so anywhere special you can recommend, please do. Also, as part of the culinary adventure, I'd love to volunteer at some restaurants, or be put to work on some farms, or fishing boats... I’m all about volunteering so any recommendations there would be appreciated as well.
Other things I hope to do on the trip... Meet different people and cultures of course, hike and/or climb, snorkel, surf, new experiences... Basically anything fun.
And finally, from those who have already done such a trip, any advice is more than welcome. I've read a lot of other peoples trip reports and blogs but keep 'em coming.
I’m definitely a bit nervous about this trip but getting pretty damn excited too.
Muchos Gracias everyone...

Best food I had in 23,000 miles was on the water front at Poerto Montt, Chile and The largest hamburger I ever saw was in Uruguay (City started with S I think out in the middle of the country). This sound like a fun trip, wish I had 10 months to hunt out good food in South America.

Garrydymond, I'd love to take you up on your offer. Last time I was in Mexico city was about 15 years ago and I loved the place. Definitely a must stop on the culinary two wheel adventure.

...and Road Hog, I just tagged Poerto Montt, Chile on my google earth.

Gracias y Salut,
-d

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
