Peru Routes. Heading North

Sorry deleted my last thread on this by accident.

Currently in Cuzco and looking to get up to Quito fairly quickly (avoiding the panam) as much as I can. Looking at the maps, ive thinking follow ruta 3S up to La Oroya and continue along the 3N up to Haurez where ill then make my ay over to Chimbote.

Any advice in this generally direction would be appreicated. Wasnt planning on heading this far north so little route planning done. Is ruta 3 paved 7 tarmac?

Thanks

Dave

I went from Nazca to Cuzco a few weeks ago. This parts is very nice asfalt. I don{t know about the further 3s (since you are there... ask locals).

From Huaraz you have to go to Chimbote. I went down from the north through the mountains to avoid the panam... this was a mistake! It took three days to get from Banos del Inco to Huaraz!

No, no no!

If you are willing to brave a little cold and possible rain (I was there just this January):

Cuzco-Andahuaylas-Ayacucho-Huancayo-Huanuco-Huaraz-Caraz-Cabana-Huamachuco-Cajamarca then to the coast if you want. I led a 6-moto team on this route in 2010.

What are you riding and what is your gravel experience?
