Peru, please be very careful, Farmers blocking the road, Feb 2018

hello everybody,we dont post very often on those forum but we think that it is very important for travelers in peru to know that the potato farmers block the road in the center of peru. some of them are very agressive and throw rock big like a football at me. they have put big and small rock every where on the street. we have to drive for one hundred km at least avoiding rock, tree, tires, fire and much more. since 2 days we always arrive where a tree have fallen or a fire on the street but nobody was there so we just dont bother. but today starting at huanuco and for about 100 km there were a lot of people in the street. so please be careful. we will post photo on facebook later: jujustef

have a safe trip everybody.

i drove through 2 road blocks in peru.
they usually aimed at government and to stop public and comercial traffic.
you stop and ask to go on and they usually let you proceed.
if not you have to wait like the rest of the crowd.
just driving through pisses them off and you get the stones.
slowly, slowly is doing the trick and a bit of spanish helps heaps

We live in central Peru. The strike is over as of Sunday the 4th of February and all is clear and smooth sailing again (as much as it can be in South America!)!

We hit a protest and road block today on the PE-3S in Auquibamba

Dozens of trucks stranded because no way of turning around in the mountain roads.

We had to take a 120km dirt detour on the PE 30 to get past this.

No idea what the block is about

Good to see you back on the road! I read your ADV Rider thread about Copper Canyon on your Versys 1000. Nice report! I'm considering a Versys 1000 myself to cover Sport Touring duties. I have a DR650 for ADV Duties.

I've done Copper Canyon 4 times, most recently on my DR650 in 2014 or so.
Even made the HU travelers meeting there in '05 or so on DL1000 Vstrom. That HU event cancelled after that. First time there on a bike was 1998 on a KLR.

On another ride there me and two buddies got seriously LOST. Finally made it out undamaged (mostly) (DL1000, 885 Tiger, R1200GS) We started on Mex. 24 and ended up all over the area ... all dirt and terrible logging roads. Finally made it out to
Tameapa ... near Mex 15 and Culiacan.

Did you Air Ship a bike to S. America or buy something there?

Are you doing a Ride Report here on HUBB or on ADV Rider? (Link?)

If I get a Versys 1000 I would never ride into off road conditions like you managed to do (not on purpose anyway!). I'm now too old, too short, too fat ... and much TOO WEAK to do that at this point!

What bike are you riding down there? Are you Two Up?

Safe travels ... y que le via muy bien! bier

Thanks!

I have been on the road since June 2017. Rode the Versys a second time to Alaska but this time two up with a new flame. We then rode down to LA and stored the bike at a friends house.

After that I flew a vstrom 650 to Bogota and we rode that two up thru South America. Been in South America 7 months now and I love it.

I started a ride report on Advrider but I quit after a few weeks. Ride report editing and photo uploading was cutting into my riding time and my time off the bike, plus internet connection is terrible down here etc....

But the trip will be over in about 6 weeks then I'll start again on the ride report. Lots of good stuff. I will also start a report on here(I had not put my previous report on HUBB before because they were for short trips and I felt they were not really worthy of this board.

The Versys 1000 has been a great bike! 104k km on ot and nothing breaks(err except that oil pan) no valve checks, just keep changing the oil and filters and thats it. I did put a Vstrom 19in front wheel on it.

I also want to go back to Copper Canyon ;)

Cheers!
