Parking in Buenos Aires
 

Dear friends
This is my 1st post so I want to introduce myself.
My name is Giuseppe and I live in Genova Italy. I’m 49.
I have travelled severel times in Africa with some friends of mine and now I want to go to South America alone.
My idea is to ship the motorbike to Buenos Aires, go to Ushuaia then drive north on Caretera Austral to Santiago and back to Buenos Aires.
Leave the bike there and came back after 11/12 monts to continue the trip direction Chile and Bolivia.
I need some informations:
can anyone suggest me an Agent to follow receiving operations in Buenos Aires?
What shall I do to leave the motorbike in Argentina for 1 year.? I heard different opinions but I ‘ve also read somewhere in the forum that it is possible.

Welcome to the HUBB. Others have been there and they will add to this. A great contact there is Dakar Motos. Javier is a big help to the rider community and they have stored bikes for people. I think best chance to park a bike now is Uruguay.They alloud period of 12 month.
In argentina they are giving a maximum of 3 month(like passport visa)now so this could complicate overstaying!!!!
It depends on your talking skills to convience the customs officer to give you the maximum alloud 8 month period.

Mi fa piacere vedere un'altro italiano con voglia di fare in moto il sud america.
i agree with statdawg with shipping the bike to BA and leaving it there (highly recomend dakar motos). however if you are planning to leave it back for 12 months then i´m not sure which is the best country. i know that in argentina is fairly easy to get the 8 months stay. if are planning to leave it for a longer period of time then you can do this in any country: find a customs agency with a warehouse in the duty free zone. then pay them to check the bike out of the country and leave the bike their duty free zone. you´ll probably will have to negotiate that with them. then when you return pay them to check in the bike into the country again. i know some people have done that in other countries but don´t have any specifics for argentina.

The president of the BMW motorcycle club of Argentina is in the parking garage business in Bs As. I forget his name, but you could find him through tht BMW club or the BMW shop there. He stores mortorcycles long term for travellers. It's very safe.

Going south to Ushuaia your bike will get 12 months at the last border crossing back into Argentina. So that works if you leave your bike there. Other border crossings will give your bike 8 months if you ask. I basically do not speak Spanish but got 8 months with "ocho meses". One time it took almost 2 hours and 6 officials, but I got the ocho.

A shipping agent told me that if I get a visa of 12 months, also motorcycle can stay 12 months.

Motorcycle storage in Buenos Aires, Argentina
 

Frantic, perhaps we cah help. For the past four months we have been storing two BMWs for a German couple. We have several spaces, and can park 4 bikes per space.. in a guarded 24/7 very upscale parking garage in Recoleta.

We store our bikes there two, it is safe and secure for long term parking, I recommend a cover for the bike. We live right next door and are expats from USA and Spain with permanent residence status in Argentina. Be happy to accomodate you for short of long term storage. xfiltrate
