Paraguay Routes - from Iguazu to Bolivia
Hi all, im going to hit Iguazu coming up through Corrientes in the next few days and wanted some suggestions on how to best see Paraguay. Id like to spend as much time in Paraguay as possible and do the best motor bike routes. Would love to hear your thoughts.

I have a great route for you Iguazu to Bolivia, but skirting the Paraguay/Brazil border. Here is is in blog form with pics:

hey there,

a really beautiful part of Paraguay ist the region at the Parana-river.
Around Posadas in direction to the german-villages Hohenau are really nice.

And in Coronel Oviedo lives a cool guy which is happy to welcome bikers and gives good tips for Paraguay and Bolivia. You can sleep there in a room or pitch a tent. His name is Walter.

After that we went to Asuncion. Nothing special- we have Info that the route to Concepcion is much more interesting and more beautyful.

Paraguay.... Dont do it !!
I ignored advice to bypass Paraguay. Big mistake. The immigration dept at the border took a hundred USD from me (bribe). I went from Iguasu falls to Corrientes then looked for a shorter route to Bolivia. The last two hundred km are unbearably bad!! It took me about 8 hours in 40 degree heat to make the journey on my klr650. Some of the pot holes go the width of the road and were as deep as my front wheel. My chain and sprockets were replaced today in Bolivia. My luggage rack broke more than once and the "cops" turned up and demanded money. They searched my bags but not my pockets. When I said I had none, they took my Ipod. They held their guns in their hands for much of our talk. Pleasee.... if you like your motorbikes, go the slightly longer way through Argentina. Not much to see Paraguay anyway.... hope this helps

Im in Santa Cruz... my bike is getting repaired again.
I crawled into town today.... i think it requires major surgery. Im getting it back on friday so I can leave for la higuera on saturday morning

The correct visa fee for Australians is $140 so you got off cheaply, especially since we are supposed to get it before we turn up at the border.

Partly because of the cost of two visas - and the hassles of getting them, and partly because of the assurances by those in the know that it wasn't worth going in even if it was free, we have crossed Paraguay off our list. Uruguay probably wouldn't make it on the list either except it is free to enter, and we will probably park our rig there once we go back to Peru to start the next leg.

A somewhat epic journey given you managed to get away with breaking all the rules at every border you crossed. Well done. If I tried that I would end up in big trouble.

I'm planning to drive from Asuncion to Bolivia in a few days, but apparently there is only the highway and it's supposed to be long, hot and boring. Some people from Paraguay advised me to make a detour through North Argentina, but then I have to cross 2 borders instead of one, and I'd like to avoid that.
Anyone did one of the two or both and can give me some advice? Thanks.

So I did do Asuncion - Santa Cruz via the Ruta 9 and it was extremely boring and straight. The last gas station (or civilization in general) is at Mariscal, then it's a difficult 250 kms under a 42 degree sun all the way to the border. I drank ten liters of water and didnt go to the toilet once. Luckily a bus driver gave me four liters or I would have been in trouble. The aduana at the border told me migration was back in Mariscal, I didnt know and somehow everybody I told I was heading to Bolivia forget to mention it. But some bribes here and there resolved all problems. I'm trying to avoid paying bribes but since there was only a gas station a 150 kms in the wrong direction I did not have much of a choice.

If anybody is thinking of doing this road, check out the one via Argentina first because it can't be much worse than this one

Hi all, I'm gonna be in Asuncion in about 5 days and was wondering if any of you that have already been there know of a good shop where I can get few things for my 2009 KLR650? Most importantly, rear tire? I've emailed few shops I found online but no response from them. Cheers.
