Organizing bikes in Argentina

Hello!

With 2 of my friend we are planning on doing Patagonia by bike 2nd half of January.
Due to personal issues we were not able to organize bikes for the trip.

AND WE NEED HELP/ADVISE.

We are looking for cheap, reliable, easy to repair locally motors -
we are also rather short and light, as such no need for large bikes.
We want to spend as little as possible, as we are working on pretty
tight budgets...

Q's:
1. What bikes? I have been recommended so far:
Honda XL200
Honda NX4
Honda Tornado XR 250
2. what is the best way to get them? Seems we do not have enough time
to loose on buying, selling. So renting? Any recommendations?
3. best place to start? As I understand it makes sense to go to the
southern border of Argentina by plane and spend the whole stay there.
Is that so? And if yes, what is the best place to start/end and get
bikes?

Any help on the above would be hugely appreciated!

Kind regards,

Marcin

Hi,

Unfortunately renting is not cheap in Argentina or Chile. See here some firms.
MotoRent Argentina - BMW - Rent a Motocycle BMW | Alquiler de Motocicletas BMW - Alquiler de Motos BMW en Argentina
RentaMoto BMW - Tarifas y Reservas
Alquiler De Moto En Chile,Argentina Motorcycle Rental,Arriendo Motos|Chile|Peru

I do not know how to buy a bike in Argentina as a foreigner. In Chile it is possible when
you have RUT tax number for foreigners. But expect prices to be at European level. In Peru I was told that it is easy to buy a bike as a foreigner. A cheap Chinese bike is 4000 soles, a more reliable Chinese (Moto Sumo) or Indian (Bajaj) approx. 2000 euro. A Honda XR 250 is approx. 3500 euo new. Insurance 500 soles a year. Not sure however if you can travel outside Peru.

Success!

Maarten
