New border crossing Ecuador - Peru

We just crossed the border at Vilcabamba, it is one of the new crossings between Ecuador and Peru. Dirt road, but incredible countryside and one of the easiest crossing we had so far.

countryleaving : Ecuador
countryentering : Peru
borderentry : Vilcabamba, Zumba - San Ignacio
borderentrydate : 21. June 2005
carnet : not required but easier
passportstamp : no
passport : yes
dl : no
idl : no
vehinsur : no
rego : yes
otherdocs : We were asked for the Carnet, actually the officer insisted on it, At the end, we used it. Our swiss friend who did not have any, discussed for 20 min and suddenly there were temporary vhicle permits which were filled out very slowly and with the help of all of us.
phocarnet : no
phopassport : no
phodl : no
phoidl : no
phorego : no
feeinfo : There were no fees, no copies required, nothing at all, just the lazy officer who either had no clue what to do with the private vehicle or no motivation to fill out his own forms. But they all were very friendly.
entryproc : Go to Immigration, officer fills out form. Police next door accepts, return to officer who stamps ur passsport. Aduana officer insist on carnet or fills out papers after a while. Easy, no problems, very friendly.
visa-dur : 90 days
insreq : no
ins-price-dur :
exitproc : all easy obvious
reliability :

The countryside is great. Allow at least one day from Vilcabamba to Zumba, one day Zumba over border to San Ignacio and another day from San Ignacio to wherever. But the people and the countryside cry for more time.

have fun
