My Top Rides of South America
We`re been travelling 7 months across Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia and we are now in Peru and working our way up to Colombia. I thought it would be good to put some of our top day or so rides if someone else is planning a trip. Also I thought other people may want to add to it and also give any suggestions of Peru, Ecador and Colombia (seeing as we`ll be that way soon).
So in no particular order (I`ve also put our blog on the particular rides, though you might not want to spoil the surprise) - The Caraterra Austral, Southern Chile - We only went from Futulafu south but it was all amazing and I would recommend anyone do any part of it they can. (Aotearoa to the Andes South America by Motorcycle) - Southern Argentina - Ruta 40 - Epic, magestic, and magical in the Patagonia region, although there is a LOT of it. - Northern Argentina, Tucaman - Tafi - Cafayate - Cachi - to Salta - Jungle, Desert, moonlike landscape, a tough ride but worth it. (Aotearoa to the Andes South America by Motorcycle) - Bolivia - All of it - especially Southwest Bolivia, the Salar, the highs, the lows - not everyday you can drive from 4000masl to sea level in a day, and then do it again the next day. - Cusco to Nasca - very windy, very very windy, but beautiful. Cool. to Lima?
Did you head from Cuzco to Lima via Puquio and Nazca? You missed the VERY BEST of Peru! (South to North)
Cuzco north to Ayacucho (2 days) is one of the best! Satipo (mnt jungle) west up to Hauncayo Puerto Bermudez to the German colony Oxapampa in the mnt jungle Huanuco the back way northwest to Huaraz over the back of the Cordillera Blanca and the Pastoruri Glacier Canyon del Pato just north of Caraz But the BEST OF ALL: Cajamarca (in the Andes) to Chachapoyas in the mnt jungle! Where are you now? I was just in the place where that picture was taken as my wife and I plan to live there and run a B&B/moto tour company from there. This is a new area of Peru that is really opening up! It is just over the ridge from Celendin as you look down to the Maranon River. Funny... I have been to Oxapampa a dozen times and never been to Pozuzo. Each time there I was short on time. All my friends have been there and all the way to Codo del Pozuzo. I have always been in charge of a moto racing or touring event and couldn't get away! Actually Pozuzo is the original colony. They found their way from Huanuco (155 years ago) over the ridge and down into that valley. What I want to do is re-discover that route. I know that it only exists now as a connection of trails...
