Motorcycle mechanic - Coihaique, Chile or Perito Moreno, Argentina

Hello all,

Usually I`m only posting threads on how amazing South America is (because it is) but we`ve had some misfortune and need some help.

We had an accident just outside of Cochrane (a car hit us!) and we are stranded in Cochrane and need to work out a way of repairing the bike. The panniers took the brunt of the hit but the gear lever is a bit broken, and dripping a bit of oil (otherwise the bike is pretty good).

No moto mechanics in Cochrane so need to work a way to Coihaique, Chile or we could try cross the border to Argentina to Perito Moreno, Argentina and try get it repaired there.

The bike is a Suzuki DL650, does anyone know any mechanics or advice?

Write now we`ve hitting some difficulties with our basic Spanish, but where theres a will, theres a way.

Cheers

Reece

There are no mechanic on Perito Moreno. If you manage to reach Rio Gallegos you can get it fixed here

There are mechanics in Coihaique, although I don't remember names. Easy overnight shipments from Santiago if you need parts.

Hope that's helpful.

Before I went on a trip to south america I did a search on the local repair shop thread on here and I have the name of a mechanic in Coihaique -

Pablo Segovia Reyes, Calle Prat 360 (Prat may be wrong - the ink in my book is a bit smudged and difficult to read!). I seem to recall hearing of a good mechanic in Perito Moreno, but never had to find him (there are loads of bikes in Perito Moreno though as every south american biker seems to include the glacier on their travel itinery). There's also a good mechanic in Punta Arenas - Motoscar, but this is a bit far away from your current location.

Some would say that this kind of preparation takes the fun out of an adventure, but it was definitely useful to have a list of repair shops handy to be able to plan buying tyres and decent oil for oil changes!

Hope that helps a little.

Managed to sort out a place in Coihaique and bike got sorted.

It turned out to be your man Pablo who was fantastic. And your address was bang on.

Thanks for all the comments
