Mendoza Bike Shop

Hello all,

I am currently in Santiago with a friend, and we are preparing our travel with an XT600 e and a KLR 650. We are going to head to North Argentina for a bit to burn off the last few miles on our tires, then plan to head south for Rt 40 and Carratera Austral.... Questions

1) Is there a place in Argentina before the bad roads ( i.e. anywhere between Mendoza and Bariloche) where there is a reliable bike shop that could help make the final tune ups before the bad stuff?

2) Does anyone know of a place in this region where we could also buy new tires ( suitable for rt 40 travel) and get them installed?

Pretty much, Im looking for help in finding a town ( i would bet mendoza or bariloche are the best) where we could buy new tires, and get a well done tune up, all for the right price. Any advice ?? Thanks guys

San Rafael bike shops

I run a KLR650 and live in San Rafael.
There are plenty of bike shops here, so no problems getting common parts or tyres here. Atuel Motos on the main street is helpful, but there are lots of others.
The town of Neuqen is approx 600 kms further south and is also a biggish town, so I would guess is likely to have a few bike shops(?)
In my experience Bariloche is strangely devoid of decent bike shops, but there are small but helpful places in El Bolson and Esquel.
For choice and availability then Mendoza would be your best bet.
Patagonia is best visited in the summer months , but as that is the national holiday period then you may find higher prices and some businesses closed.
Carreterra Austral road not to be missed.

There is a shop called TopMoto i think just 1 block from the BMW dealer in Mendoza. Its a custom style shop but has a very good selection of tyres. (even had tyres for big Beemers!) Reasonable prices too. Dont think it has a work shop though.

Cant remember the exact address, but i have teh card back at my hostel if you really need it. but its really easy to find, as said just a block away from the BMW dealer. everything in Mendoza proved to be easy to find. Very Civilised.

If you are coming over from chile and its a bit chilly over the pass you can stop in some of teh hotsprings on the way back down!

cheers

Hi People, ref the above, Top Moto is at Calle San Juan 570 and very helpful and the Bmw shop is just round the corner at Moron 27, also very helpful. Ride safe.

Thanks guys

Just wanted to write a reply real quick... I am in mendoza, and for any future travellers wondering about mendoza bike shops / repairs}

Top Moto is great. Great selection of tires with all the accesories you need at the right price. Its on San Juan not more than 10 blocks from the center of the city

Repairs: I am having work done at Quiroz Moto Mechanic.... on Cobos 974. Reliable, right price, good work.

Just though I would give my 2 cents. There it is folks... Merry Xmas, Happy New Year, and if anyone is in Argentina and feels like meeting up, send me a PM, on the way down to Ushuaia out of Mendoza. Cheers

Top Moto wasn't that great in my experience, today. It's pretty much all Harleys, skulls and black t-shirts. An effort to get staff to respond. Reasonable tyre selection, but the Honda dealer a block and a half away had a superior selection.

Perhaps it's changed in the last 8 years?
