Lost plate in Brazil

Along with a few other bits and pieces, I have lost my Canadian registration plate on these rattly old roads in Brazil. any ideas on how I get another one, and do I need to tell the police?

Regards

Mick

Hi Mick!

I think the legal way is to tell the police, making a "BO" (Boletim de Ocorrência) in some police station, and keep it with you.. to prevent some trouble... and contact the embassy about get a new plate, probably imported from Canada...

The easiest way is to go to a paint shop, paint a new one, fit in your bike, and keep it dirt! Probably noboby in SA will be able to recognize if it is real one or not... but to get the bike back in your country, or North America, it's could be a problem...

Maybe you can use the second option, while you try to get a new "legal" plate... drove without a license plate is search for problems with the police... http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/frown.gif

If you need some help here in Brazil, you can contact our Clube XT600, our "International" section:

(just click "NovoTópico", write in english, no problems...)

best regards

Make up a plate!

We replaced our Canadian one with a Euro style plate, whcih is just a piece of plastic with the number on it via plastic stick on characters of the appropriate size. BOTH styles of plate are commonly seen on foreign bikes running around SA, so no one is likely to worry about it or know the difference, so long as the number is correct.

And on travelling through the USA and returning to Canada with the same plastic plate, no one noticed a thing, including the California highway patrol gut that gave me a ticket for passing on a double yellow http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/frown.gif

So don't be paranoid, they don't have access to the Canadian registration office - just make one that looks good.

Thanks for the input. Marcio "the bat" Antunes from the B-17 Motoclube, here in Natal, has made me a beautiful little replica. It's amazing what you can do with a computer, some old road-signage and a little sticky-backed plastic. It even says; "Beautiful British Colombia" on it. I wasn't being paranoid, I just didn't want any inconvenience. Ta again
