Leaving a motorcycle in Argentina! - Horizons Unlimited

Hi,
we are travelling on 2 motorcycles through north, middle and southamerica. right now we are in bolivia and are starting to think about what we could do with the bikes at the end of our trip in buenos aires. we would like to leave at least 1 bike there but now we do have the question how that works. usually you get a permission for travelling with the bike when you enter the country and i think it could be a problem to leave the country without the bike. does anyone know more about that, how it works in argentina, of course we don't want to pay a lot of custom....

You can leave your bike/s at Javier Kaper Motoshop in BA.
There are many travellers bikes stored longer then those 8 month given by customs.

I've left my bike in Argentina, but will come back within those permitted 8 months to drive it for a while. I left Argentina without being asked about my bike at the border point, so i guess there's nothing stamped in your passport or so. And as you both know, things in South America go a bit different than in Europe :-)

Hallo Henno!

Make sure when you enter the country that they give you the 8 month for your motorbike. That´s the maximum, you only will get 3 month!

I left my bike in Buenos Aires by Javier and Sandra for nearly half a year and picked it up again! Save place nice people, talk with them!

thanks for your help! it sounds like the maximum permission is 8 month. but what happens when the bike will be in argentina more than 8 month?? 1 year, 2 years?! would i have preoblems to leave the country with the bike after 1 year?! is there a way to get a longer permission? is it in other countries of southamerica more or less the same?

Uruguay gives a one year permit. That is the longest in SA as far as I know. But I wouldnt worry to much. As Marco said: Things are different in SA. Talk to Sandra and Javier. Emma, my broken bike, waits at their shop until I will return.
