On detachment to Arica, Chile

Hi guys,

Going to Arica, Chile for 3 weeks from 25 October 2008 until the 16th of November.

I'll be working out of the airport with a bunch of aviation engineers and other riff raff, so if you have any mechanical issues I'm sure we can sort something out...

If there's anyone out there around that time and wants to speak some English or Dutch and have a cold of course be sure to drop me an email. It's always nice to talk to other travellers on the road....

Sadly I won't be on the bike this year. But I have got plans to go back to Chile in 2009 with the bike.

Don't be shy now.

Cheers,

Mark.

Mark,

Sorry no one has written in a week. So I will write to keep this thread near the top so people have a chance to see it for the next 2 weeks.

I lived in the jungle of Peru many years as a "tourist", meaning that every 6 months I would have to "leave the country" to "re-set" my "tourist" visa. Believe it or not, Arica was the quickest place to do that even tho I was less than 100 miles from Cruzeiro do Sul ! I have been to Arica now 5 times and have enjoyed the place greatly, the market places, the railroad tracks by the sea, and the small plazas.

Actually, an aviation hangar is one of the best moto shops anywhere due to the cleanliness and the materials and equipment available (bring your OWN nuts and bolt tho, as EVERYTHING there will be grade 8, fine thread, SAE bolts!) Here's a pix of my son and I's total moto repair in Cuiaba, Brazil at a missionary centers hangar (he even had had a crash 1,500 km before) and the treatment was great!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
