Immigration in Colombia

An advice. On 16 Jan 2012 I entered Colombia through Cali, Colombia airport. I bought a KLR in Cali and exit Colombia via land border into Ecuador at the Ipiales, Colombia /Tulcan, Ecuador border crossing. After riding down South for about 3 months, I decided to return to Colombia via the same exit border cross. But, to my horror I was refused entry into Colombia via the land entry. The official told me to reenter Colombia through the airport entry as my passport only allow me to enter Colombia by this mean. What a policy is that? I did not know all this before I enter or exit Colombia earlier or else I would not have done all this ride from Colombia. So, please check your in and out regulation for your passport before crossing the borders.
Anyway, I managed to reenter Colombia at the same border cross after a long explanation and convincing and the Immigration official there who is so very helpful. BTW, I am a Malaysian, travelling with a Malaysian Passport.

Safe Ride.

I entered Colombia by air, left by land, then re-entered six months later by land without any problem. I can see no reason why this should be a problem, and no reason why any official should think this is a problem. That leaves the obvious: you were being asked for a bribe. I'm glad you resisted, since to give in would encourage them to do this more often.

I'm willing to be told there's another explanation, but I'll take some convincing.

Hola Sulaiman it's John from Cali. I met you and your wife as you where trying to leave Mike's place. I've never heard about that being a problem as I also flew into Colombia, although from the States, went to Ecuador and back using the same crossings all without a problem.

Think something is a little more than fishy sounding with the immigration officer:thumbdown:

Hope you and the wife had a good trip down and back.

I've just been down to Ecuador and Venezuela on my second time around now.

Malaysia Passport

Just curious, Did you entered Colombia with a Passport of Malaysia and were you required to have a visa beforehand and had you multiple entries to come in Colombia?
Sometimes with a not commonly used passport, the immigration rules are different and look strange on first side and they might have made an additional note in your passport, when you entered the country, which they don't do with the more common nationalities, such as USA or European.....
