Highways Around Lima

I'm on the northern side of the earthquake damage (in Huaraz) and wondering if anyone knows how the road south is? I'm actually trying to find other paved roads (or at least short sections on very good dirt roads) that would allow me to pass by Lima, Ica & Nasca (sadly) in the northern highlands.

I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who knows about the roads from Huaraz to Huanuco to Huancayo to Ayacucho to Cusco. Everyone I talk to here and every map I look at I gives me a different answer.

Stay safe, but have fun.

last time I drove that road is 2 years ago. Is beautiful. guess about half half with tarmac and gravel. But all gravelroads were good biking. Not much traffic. Road winds up and down the mountains all the time, views to all directions and very friendly not- spoiled- by -tourists- loclas after Ayacucho.

Thanks for the advice Marker, but I decided to take the safe route this time (the PanAmerica hwy) as I had just finished some 'challenging' roads the week before and needed a little 'smooth sailing' for a while, if you know what I mean.

Currently in Cuzco trying to find a less expensive way of seeing Machu Picchu. Based on prices I've heard and read, prices have really skyrocketed.

Cheers,
Daren
