HELP with port procedures in Rio
 

Hello,

I have just shipped my Landy to Rio from the UK. As expected the local shipping agent is trying to push me into using a freight forwarder to do all the customs paperwork for $500. We have paid all the fees to the agent already and I am told customs in brazil for temporary imports for cars in straight forward. Has anyone done this at a port or land border.

We are also having problems with undestanding things here - pls could anybody clarify. Because if this Landy come here by land, say from Argentina, there would not be a 5 minut talk and zero cost for this kind of procedure on the border (this is just a standard doc to be filled in, temporary import, what is so special?). So why all these port/ cargo tales look so repeatedly sad? What grounds they have for charging all these? What best to do in such a situation?
