Talking Which bike to buy?! Lima, Peru and beyond

I have a decision to make here in Lima on what out of two bikes will be the best for touring around s america. Limited on money so my options here are a couple chinese bikes, wanxin and RTM both 200cc. Small i know but heh better than nothing. The Wanxin WX200gy-a is very basic, its considered an enduro but is kinda a classic road bike that could be taken off road just not rallyed too hard. Its got a semi wide flat seat, sits pretty low, 12hp, gets about 88mpg and i think it has a 2 gallon tank. Its also got a rack on the back. Brand new for $1100 (can probably get for less). The other option is the bit more flashy RTM 200 gy which is a really nice looking full on enduro with racks on front and back and a very molded angled seat. Its got 15hp, 2 gallon tank, and gets 74 mpg. Cost pretty much about the same. I keep going back and forth on which one would be better, I really like the KTM but wondering if the other would be more comfortable and more inconspicuous. Anybody got any tips? oh and i want to be driving through the mountains but will be forced i think at times to drive on highways. Both could handle i think. Thanks ciao

The RTMs are popular, and I haven't seen allot broken down on the side of the road. If you can score a Bajaj 180, get one. They are supposed to be a re-badged suzuki and a decent bike.

The AKT bikes have strong points as well.

Better if you can buck up for a used XL 200 though...

Thumbs up Best cheap bike here - Honda CGL 125!

Hi,

I am in Lima right now too, but I am flying home to Germany tomorrow night...
back to the winter!

The best cheap bike that you can get is definitely the Honda CGL 125, costs new around 1300 US$, very reliable - spare sparts everywhere in South America!

Go for it! GOod luck on your trip!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
