Good Mechanics in Colombia

This is an atempt to try and make a collection of good mechanics and spare part stores in Colombia. Please feel free to ad information and addresses/links ect. I plan do do several videos...

Cali:
Asturias - Work on all adventure and street bikes, mostly BMW GS and Harley's. Ave 6AN # 24AN - 50, Cali, Tel. (2) 660 6038
http://www.asturias.com.co

Kawasaki dealer and mechanic
Sexta a fondo, Ave 6, 25N - 69, Cali
kawasakiseis@une.net.co, Tel. (2) 668 35 24

Suzuki Super Store
Ave 6, Nte #23 - 75, Cali
almacen@suzukisuperstorecali.com, Tel. (2) 660 92 88

Motor sports G2 - KTM, Aprilia and other offroad bikes, opens in a couple of weeks. Owner used to be the KTM dealer, but that store is now closed.
MOTOR SPORTS 2G

BMW dealer - but I suggest using Asturias instead, several bikers did not get to good service at the BMW place as all mechanics are converted car mechanics.
Ave 6N, 40 - 41, Cali, Tel. (2) 689 7666

Medellin:

More to come!

BMW Ruta 40 in Medellin

Simon and I visited the BMW dealer in Medellin, called Ruta 40, for some routine maintenance on our respective R1200GS Adventures. They got us in with next to no notice and treated us wonderfully.

I had the oil (synthetic) and filter changed, transmission oil (synthetic) changed, air filter replaced, general inspection, purchased a long-sleeve t-shirt, various stickers, custom Ruta 40 leather wallet, all for under US$200.

Simon had the oil and filter changed, air filter changed, replaced headlight bulb, all for under US$100.

We couldn't believe the prices. (Synthetic oil alone in Chile cost me $120 for 4 liters.)

I would highly recommend these guys. Wonderful, friendly service and they are not looking to gouge their customers.

Ruta 40

I just ordered some bits from Ruta 40 from Medellín, myself being in Bogotá and not bothering making a detour to Medellín (local postal transport is cheap and effectively fast! (through Avianca)).

I was amazed they had the parts I couldn't find nowhere else stocked in South-America (except maybe reserve Brazil) - i.e. tubeless TKC80 tyres in GS size, rear bevelobox bearing, paralever bearings and some rare o-rings for my GS - in stock!

And prices for BMW bits are the most reasonable in S-Am so far indeed! Only slightly more expensive i.e. compared to Europe (whereas Argentina and Chile ask silly 2-3 times the price!!! And you wait weeks for parts)

Let's see, if the parts are here by tomorrow as promised, then it's a worthy company to deal with.

BMW Ruta 40 in Medellín

I'm not surprised. When we were there earlier this week, the shop was very clean and everyone was very professional.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
