Going Solo to Colombia, Nov. '08!!!

Anyone have any ideas on places to or areas to avoid riding through Colombia? I know things have changed in the past few years, but can use some advice to avoid some still problem areas.

Thank for any advice,

Greg

Avoid the darien gap and only go to the national park above santa marta on a guided tour.

I spendt lots of time in the mountains riding around, alone, and I had no problems and great fun.

What route are you planning?

I'm back in Colombia after a visit earlier this year on my MC tour de Americas and that resulted in a girlfriend soon to become wife and we're expecting a child in December. I just started a hostel in Cali (Casablanca Hostel | bienvenido! - welcome! :::::::::) and I just love Colombia. Its the one country in all of South and Central America where I have felt most safe and least hassled by people and authorities.

Like most countries in the Americas there are areas that are more safe than others, but common sense well get you by most places just fine. Allways ask the locals for the latest news before heading out on long lonely stretches. But the military presence is really strong along the roads now and usely they wave you infront of the cue, unlike most other latin american authorities, as well as the police might very willing ride infront of your to show you directions for hotels or hostel aso.

Tell me you route and I'll get you the latest info!
