Nice site! I like the way you have incorporated the Google Map on the first page, pretty neat.

Drumboy 5 Nov 2007 19:33

Did you build this or are you using some kind of hosting service' template or something?

I also like the map, how'd you do that?

website

Thanks guys, appreciate the good words,

I cant take too much credit for the site as although I built it I got serious guidence from mate friends Salvador and Kev. Basically it is done on a template, there are loads of them out there, and the google map thing is achieved by firslty having a g-mail account. from there its obvious.

hope that helps.

thanks

Simon

wow ! i am getting praise from an English man!!! wonders never cease! :thumbup1: Yeah the map is easy guys once you have a gmail account go into google maps, Google Maps then create your own map. Once done save it and use the link to this page button on the top right hand corner and paste the html into your website! and hey presto a map! muy facil as the say here in South America. every time you update it on google the feed automatically does the site

Sweet, I figured it was some sort of google widget.

Where did you get the site design template at? I'm interested in starting a basic blog about my riding adventures and like the simplicity of yours and it looks easy to update. I'm a web developer but I'd rather start with something and add on.

Thanks!

The one I recommended Kev and Simon while in my house in Nicargua and that they are using:

- Blogging Software, Business Blogs & Blog Services at TypePad.com We are currently using the medium (?) version which cost around U$8.99/month. they have an advance version for $15/month that gives you a lot more flexibility.
- If you are a web developer and have your own server then the other famous one in WordPress.com ยป Get a Free Blog Here which is "free" but at the end of the day it cost as much as typepad. word press has ton more functions and templates - but u need to be webdeveloper to be able to use all the extra features.. I have blogs with both of them and for my skills and money i prefer typepad.com
- for those that don't want to spend money blogspot/blogger are free versions but very limited capabilities
- what i like with typepad and wordpress is that you can do Domain Mapping so it shows your domain name and not blogspot. so you are creating publicity just for yourself

- to buy the domains i have found that GoDaddy.com is the cheapest one and make it pretty easy to do the domain mapping.

- to create the banners that Kev and Simon have and that i used to have i recomend DaFont.com. lot's of cool fonts. you need to download the font, added it to your fonts in control pannel and you are set to go.

- i recomend statcounter.com for keeping tracks of your visitiors....
:thumbup1:
as web developer you probably know more than i do - i just learned last year with trial and error.
as you build your site don't forget to put a link back to me SalCar Nicaragua: Healthcare, Motorcycles, Adventure

i got recommended typepad by WorldRider check his site which is a lot better than ours!

feel free to contact me if you have other questions...
Best,
Salvador aka SalCar

Cool, I might check out the functionality of typepad and wordpress and just build it into a page that fits my needs.

GoDaddy.com is who I use for my domains and a really good service.

Thanks for the help!

Just an FYI, Blogger.com (part of Google) has some pretty cool features and it's free. One thing I love is that you can set it to FTP the files to your server so you can actually host it and have the URL point to files on your server.

I'll post mine once I get it nice and pretty.

I love technology!

You have to love having the ability to share so many great stories with so many interested readers...

Keep filling your website and we'll keep reading.

Another thing, how hard is it find places to upload pictures while on the road? I know there are lots of internet cafes, but can you hook a memory stick reader up to them?

Software for the website

Very nice place.
I also want to develop my own website. Actually I'm trying with a software that is call Moodle.
Please advice about the software you are using.
