Ferry from Chile to Argenitina??

I did a search for a ferry from Chile to Argentina, or across the straits to get to Terra Del Fuego and found nothing. Is there a bridge?? I can't imagine one that long, and guessed that everyone who goes to Ushaia for the Christmas gathering can't swim well enough to carry their bikes across. Where do you cross to get there? I know--"hey stupid--buy better maps" but as skinflint as I am and with the Old Woman and her rolling pin, decided to ask here. Where is the recommended road across the Magellan Straits?

Thanks, Joe

Magallanes´strait

You can cross the Magallanes´ strait for two place: next to the city of Rio Gallegos the wide of strait is 3 milles and the raft make it in 20 minutes. Other place is in the city of Punta Arenas, the wide of strait is long, the raft cross it in 3 hours and you arrive to El Porvenir. On both place you have approximately 100 milles of way unpaved in very bad condition when you are going inside island. Do you understood my English? Tell me the mistakes, please...
Greetings, Raul

You can cross at two places
Punto delgado which goes every hour or so and costs approx $25 USD.

The other is at porviner which I belive goes once a day and costs approx $75 USD.

The latter I have not travelled so times and cost I m not sure of .

Thanks for the way to go. So, both roads are very bad? Which way do most riders go to Ushuaia, or is it about equal? We plan on cross the Andes way up north and then coming down the coast, so it looks like we really don't have much choice. If that way is not the normal or most paved (we are on a scooter) then any other advice will sure be welcome.

Ferry

Just got back from down there and you will definitely be taking the ferry. It was fairly inexpensive for a motorcycle and took less than 30 minutes. Just keep going due south out of Rio Gallegos. It is just south of the border crossing. After you cross the ferry, you will have another 20 miles or so before you hit gravel roads. You will have approx. 75 miles of gravel. It isn't too bad as long as it's not raining. After that, it is smooth sailing to Ushuaia. Here are some photos: South America 2006
