Hi kito, I don`t know about Peru but I had that problem in Ecuador. I overstayed one day, they said it was the same one day or one month. I had to pay 300 usd.

There are fines for overstaying your permit and there is a system in place to deal with it. I would try just going to immigration, stamping out, dropping off your bike paper and leaviing rather quickly. I left Ecuador without giving them my bike documents. I won't suggest you just ride past, but you probably could. Especially if you are entering Bolivia via Puno.

I heard of a couple in their VW campervan wanting to leave Peru at the Titicaca Lake with an expired permit. They were accompanied back to Puno and had their VW confiscated. Maybe not the norm, but I wouldn't risk it.

I took the border crossing on the far side of Lake Titicaca, there's not a soul in sight there!

Border formalities are completed back in Puno and then on entering Bolivia you need to get a stamp in your passport from the local police, you can then complete immigration procedures in La Paz. Very easy.

I was later told that I should have completed importation for the motorcycle near the border but I had no problem getting paperwork for the bike at customs in El Alto.

Good luck
