Cost and paperwork???

Im thinking of a trip from Dallas texas to south america, preferably buenos aires. What paperwork will I need as a US citizen with a US registered bike worth less than 4,000 dollars? Also how much would such a trip cost, I plan on camping whenever possible. Basically which white papers and how many green papers should I take with me excluding gas and food? Thanks alot in advance guys!

Hey Imthadon,
My understanding is that when you leave you will need a passport, a yellow fever vaccination record, a permiso de conducir (available at AAA) and the title for your bike.
In addition to your passport and U.S. drivers liscense, You might also want (or need) other forms of I.D. like a birth certificate. You will generally need insurance for each seperate country that you enter (although there is some debate on this issue).
Apparently you also need a "Liberta de Pasos por Aduana" for south america, but this can be purchased en route, according to the AMH.
Good luck,
Nate

You don't need insurance anywhere!! Only crossing into Costa Rica are you charged for insurance depending on how long you'll be there. Otherwise, I was never even questioned about it.

Have your passport, title to vehicle, drivers liscense and hang on to whatever tourist papers each country gives you. Great trip!!--Porter

A birth certificate isn't necessary to the best of my knowledge. Passport, title, an international driver's license doesn't hurt, registration, etc.
