Clearing customs in Quito
Well I´m stuck in Quito. Shipped the bike from Panama to Quito on Tuesday. Bike will arrive in Quito tomorrow, which is a Saturday. No customs here on Saturday!
Want to get out of here on Monday if at all possible. Does anyone have a direct knowledge of the paperwork and where to go to clear customs. I have copies of passport, title, registration and drivers license. I will make copies of the shipping documents. With this in hand, where do I go to clear customs. The bike is at Girag in Quito. How many documents will I need to acquire and what is there purpose. Do I need to make copies of of each as acquired to bring to the next stage. Is there any specific order in which I need to acquire them. Would rather not use an agent, but if that is the fastest way will probably do it. How many different buildings do I have to visit for paperwork or is it all in one place. I don´t speak Spanish, I know, shame on me. I can do some translation ahead of time with Google and carry that with me if I know what I have to ask. Things like "where is the window to declare items," if I need that. Thanks in advance. Oh yes and Border Crossings too! Also see Carnets for all the nitty gritty. (No you don't need a carnet but you did until recently!)

Hi John; Maybe you can check here. This guy is in Quito and I'm sure he cleared his bike from Girag easily. www.Forums.Delphiforums.com/MCTourer/messages. He uses the handle TSayer1. Check his signature for his e-mail. Maybe this will help??? Neil W.
