Buying a bike in SA, touring all over then selling again -

Hey guys, as always I’m having troubles getting information together from different links threads

How easy is it to buy a bike in SA, travel across all countries/borders and sell it again ? Can I just buy a bike in Argentina and travel around South America and then just sell it again wherever a decide to finish up ?

Would this be a beaurocratic nightmare?? I was going to just ship my bike over but im going to travel aus on foot for 12 months b4 SA and dont want to have to go back to the UK before SA.

All info greatfully appreciated as always.

Hi
If you start a search at this forum you will find the answer.Forget to buy a argentine registered bike!To expensive and imposible to roll over the border for the first year!(for non argentinean residents)
To buy another travellers bike.....is paper work, allmost nightmare(with freddy krüger)
if not imposible to do in time.
So no many options here in Argentina.
Bye

Find a traveller from this forum who wants to sell a foreign registered bike. Go to a Notario in Uruguay, (I know of one I used - $10), with the relevant paperwork, make a "Carta Poder", and from personal experience, this will do for at least 11 countries in Latin America. When you are finished, find a traveller who wants to buy, and do the same thing, not necessarily in Uruguay - I did the same in Guatemala. Argentina is a pain, so don't consider, but Montevideo is a pleasant trip by boat and bus via Colonia.

Ted

I bought a bike in Brazil four years ago and sold it (three and a half years ago) also in Brazil.

I can't believe that Brazilian bureaucracy will have changed much since then.. *everything* was slow! But it's possible. More details on this thread:
