Buying a bike in Chile to sell in Brazil

Hello,
I’m planning on travelling with my girlfriend from Chile to Bolivia / Argentina / Uruguay / Brazil from November this year. The plan is to buy a bike in Chile and sell it in Brazil, as we then plan to fly to Columbia. From what I can see it’s quite easy to buy a bike in Chile, but hard to sell a bike in Brazil because of the ridiculous import tax. Does anyone have any experience of this? Maybe it’s easier to sell it in Uruguay, or even Paraguay. Also, would travelling across borders be easier if I bought a UK or US registered bike, rather than a Chilean registered bike?

In addition, we’re trying to do this on a budget so buying a new bike and shipping it home isn’t really possible.

Thanking in advance anyone that could help!
Cheers
Warren

Hi,

To bay and register a bike in Chile

http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...le-non-63372-2

you will need a RUT

and to sell the bike in Brasil you have to plan the import carefully or rather sell in Paraguay:

For all the other questions you can use google

Import of any used vehicle in Brazil is not allowed, only new (importduties 100-120%) . Till some years ago one could sell illegaly as one could always find a way here (jeitinho brasileiro, as they say here) to get some brazilian papers, nowadays that is no longer possible as far as I know. And I and others really tried....
Paraguay is an option but I would say why not drive back to Chile, from Paraguay it is a 3 day ride only. I would prefer to sit in the saddle for 3 days instead of 3 days and probably longer of paperwork battles.
