Los Angeles to Rio de Janeiro (no time line, no idea!!!)

18/1/2011
This is my first entry for my trip,
So finally the idea has become a reality, after my first trip to Rio de janeiro Brazil in 2008 I was hooked and I knew latin america was for me and I had to discover more of south and central america.
So the idea then after my first 4 week holiday was that I would quit my job and try and make a go of living in Rio. Not long after returning from my holiday I discovered ADV rider and Horizonsunlimited, and after reading peoples travel stories I was hooked once more and the idea grew from riding a bike from the north of brazil to the south, then expanding again to the possiblity of riding from columbia to the south of brazil. Then the final conclusion that I would just include all of central america as well and begin my journey from Los angeles(as it is the cheapest place to fly to from Australia).
However as my ideas grew so did the budget I would have to save to complete the journey, hence the reason three years have past since the idea and and the reality now.
Anyways enough of the bullshit!
So I arrived in Los Angles on the 17th of jan and caught a bus from LA to San Fran where a fellow ADV member was going to help me out with the purchase and set up of the bike. He had purchased a KLR 650 for me!
Custom black paint job. (don't know what the guy was thinking doing that but anyways). Regardless it seems to run alright and will be perfect for my needs.

18th jan
Today I spent the morning at the DMV to organise the title to be changed into my name and the rego. It took a bit of a time at the DMV in the que but there was no drama there, $72 for the fee and I was on my way,
however I was informed it could take up to 4 weeks for the new title to be posted.
I also purchased insurance through progressive.

In the afternoon I purchased a new front sprocket and some oil filters for my trip, I am also going to have to change the chain and rear sprocket.

I enjoyed riding around san francisco the city is quite beautiful with nice hills and the traffic is also pretty calm.

Tomorrows task is to get the bike set up for the trip putting on the paniers tank bags etc.
If anyone reading has a tank bag they want to sell let me know.

The majority of us spend or time working jobs we hate to buy shit we don't need! DON"T BE A SUCKER!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
