Buy a bike and sell in Argentina
 

Next week I'm leaving with my girlfriend for a world trip. Our first stop is Equador. First we will do voluntary jobs for about four weeks. From there we will go trough Bolivia, Peru, Chile and Argentina.

We've been travelling by bike before in Cameroon. We bought (and sold) a 150cc bike (max speed 90km/h) for €300. So pretty cheap!

We'd might like to buy a bike in Equador and sell in Argentina. Is this possible? Is it difficult to sell in Argentina?
And are there cheap bikes avalaible in Ecuador?

Ecuador has some of the most expensive bikes in South America, but the little 125's are about same price as the other countries - just the bigger bikes are high.
i don't think you can sell an Ecuador bike in Argentina, unless you go over to Paraguay. Dakar motors in BA might be able to help, and do more searching here.
Best bet is to search here for a traveller's bike for sale in Ecuador, then sell to another traveller in Argentina.

I know of some belgium guys who bought Suzuki GN 125's in Ecuador and rode down to Argentina.
They raved about the bikes, were getting speeds up to 95km once the bikes were broken in (they were only carrying about 15kg in luggage) had no issues even on dirt roads and only had to change the oil in 15k or so riding.

I believe they had a local contact in Ecuador to facilitate the paperwork otherwise they said it would have been difficult as foreigners.

The downside was that they had to sell them in Argentina for about 1/4 the price of what they were worth BUT your talking about bikes worth well under $2,000 new anyway.

I had one in Costa Rica - best 125 in it's class I thought...able to carry heavy loads and handles dirt better than others once you swap tires, and more power than others.
Suzuki mechanics say change the oil at first 100km, then 600km - the weakest part of bike is camshaft area and needs clean oil. Should go 50,000 km or more if oil kept clean.

I am in Ecuador now, 7 hours from Quito, and 3-4 hours from Guayaquil. I have been here for 3 weeks, and am staying for 3 more.

I am living in a town called Azoques.

I rode my motorcycle here from the United States.

I'm riding a Suzuki DR650, and am considering selling it, maybe you might be interested.

Otherwise, a Suzuki GN125 is the way to go, it is the top of its class in my opinion.

When you get here, let me know, and I will help you try to find a bike if you want. I speak Spanish, and can help you with all the details. I have no plans while I am here.

DM does not get involved into that! They neved had and never will as it is forbidden by law to sell temporary imported bikes in ARGENTINA.
A good 150 cc bike now is on the 3000-4000 US friends:thumbdown:

Yes, I've read that it's not possible to sell a used bike in Argentina. But for us its also possibe to sell in Chile or Bolivia.

i bought a bike (klr 650) with barely any papers from a foreigner in BA and sold it later to another foreigner in Cartagena, Columbia (and explained him how to photoshop)

for insurance issues this was not a problem as i got insurance on my name and only important thing was that i had a valid and 'real' moto driver's licence
