Bolivia questions
 

1. Is getting own bike in/out of Bolivia any more complex than elsewhere? My non-moto guide book says it is.

2. IS this road in Bolivia (or China)? There seems to be some debate!

Howdy from Texas----Bolivia is just like Peru, Arg. and Chile. Same 3 steps at the border. Police, Immigration, and Customs.

did a couple of weeks ago and no problem. easy and straight forward. crossed into bolivia from puno into copacabana and out from tupazi towards salta... good luck!

I would advise copacabana as I went to the other one into Bolivia and found it a bit corrupt.Only a couple of dollars to the police at both barriers but time consuming.

2. There is a Road of Death in Bolivia but it does not look like the link you posted. The one in Bolivia has no siderails..... the road in your post has siderails and isn't as dangerous as the one in Bolivia.

How many people have died on that road by having heart attacks or rear-end collisions with themselves? If the road of death looks anymore frightening it should be posted as "for adult viewing only. can cause stunted growth."

I just got into Bolivia via the copocabana side and it was easy. However i heard that things will change for people from the usa, We are going to need a visa soon. Just did the road of death and didnt think it was that bad. I even did the road through the Yungan area to Coripato. The worst road I have had is the road to hidro Electrica in peru because there is a section thats under construction. Just watch out for the damn bikes on the road of death.

Thanks all, I´ll seek out the Bolivian one if it`s not too far out of my way. I had a feeling that one was in China. I seem to be learning things from Wikipedia all time time these days!

Bolivian Visas
 

Hi all,
We have just arrived in Lima and have been advised that since Jan.1 all
US citizens are required to have their Bolivian visa before arriving at the
border. Which means going to a Bolivian consulate or their embassy.
We will check their requirements for the moto transit paper work and
post this info as soon as we can.
Have any other US citizens crossed into Bolivia since the first of the
year and what was the visa situation.

The guy above is right. It is the Guiliong (spelling?) road in China, carved by the villagers. Began in 1972 and taking 5 years to complete.

Answer to my own question
 

Crossed into Bolivia at Copacabana today, and I must say it was the quickest and easiest border crossing since Canada/USA. No requests for "embarakation tax" etc. either. All done in 30 mins both sides.

Yungas road tomorrow I think!
