In San Jose there is a bonded warehouse where the customs will let you keep a motorbike for a about $1/day.

I don't know where it is, but if you contact the customs office they should be able to help.

Good luck!

Great. Any problems with leaving a bike for a year or more? Any paperwork hassles? Trouble getting into or out of the country?

I am heading down that way in November, had planned on getting a ton of time off but can only get four weeks. I tend to really move, but I do like to stop and actually see the roses once in a while. 4 weeks is not enough to do anything but head down and back to Panama City. I am leaving from New hampshire. If I could store the bike and go again either next fall or the spring a year and a half later, it would be great.

I called the number in Costa Rica and was directed to another number, customer service 506-443-7733

-I spoke to Ramola? and was told that if I was coming in from Nicaroagua I would go to Customs at Peñas Blancas (506-667-0192) and pay ~75-$100 for insurance for 6 months and some customs charges for "permission" to keep the bike there. He said that there is no charge for storage.

Has anyone actually done this? Is it really safe? This would be wonderful but I am a little leary. I don't want to pay for an airline ticket then get there and find out the guy on the phone was wrong.

I have the papers only for 3 month and i couldn´t extend them for an other 3 month right now, i would have to come back in february, but i made an agreement with one from the costumers that he will give me the papers i need after my return in 5 month. He sayd it´s no proplem at all but he cant do it now and i should come back in the end of april with the original papers and he will give me the new ones!
I told him to come without my bike because i don´t wont to loose it and he agreed!
I hope he doesn´t forget what he said!

There would be an other solution as well, you just but a second driver on your papers and he can drive it out of the country and after three days back in or just gets the extention in San Jose! But he is not allowed to do it when he is resident in the country!
That was the problem for me!
I will tell you in may how it endet up!
