best starting place for south/central america trip?

Hi,

I am about to set off on a trip with my girfriend and my africa twin (2-up).

The original plan was to go with Grimaldi and start in Buenos Aires.

This plan might still stand but as we are heading off at the beginning of March all of a sudden I am thinking it might be best to ship to the the south of USA or Central America and head south following the weather.

My 2 major considerations here are the weather and costs. Does anyone know if there are companies offering a similar cargo-type boat service. My main reason for Grimaldi was the roll on/roll off nature of the journey. Something similar to this heading for Central America would almost be to good to be true.

The other obvious solution is to head to BA and then just travel north.

Any opinions? Am I worrying to much :)

Thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul

I've used Grimaldi, but only returning Bs As to Tilbury. As the bike wasn't on the ship's manifest as cargo, I just rode out of the port. However, in Bs As you will have to sort out the temporary import paperwork and get insurance. I'm planning to return by Grimaldi this November so will be very interested in your experience if you use them. Anything I learn in the meantime I'll post to this thread.

In theory it should be perfectly straightforward, the same procedure as crossing from Chile to Argentina for example, which I did many times. However, as Mollydog says, there may be some palms to grease.

Give me a ring on 01452 424545 anytime if you want a chat about it.

Regards, Mick
