Are Tyres cheaper in Bolivia or Peru?
Hi team,

We`re in La Paz now driving a Suzuki DL650 and are thinking about replacing our tyres. We will be travelling next to Peru and could pick up some there. Does anyone know which country is better to buy from?

If not if anyone has bought tyres in Peru let us know roughly the cost so we can compare.

Hi,

I think you should be happy if you get big tires for your bike in Lima. I bought tires for my CGL 125 in La Paz and Lime the coast was the same onely 15 US$ per tire but dont expect to be able to get big tires everywhere...

I´m heading that way - and was wondering myself whether it was better to change tyres in Bol or Peru for my XT660Z Tenere. I was thinking perhaps Cuzco?

Anyone know of a good supplier / prices.

In La Paz it will be hard to find big tyres.

Peru is cheap (very cheap!) for tyres, we payed 55USD for a 90/90 R21 Pirelli MT60, just as an indication. Various shops have a lot on stock, but e.g. 'Honda Desert' can help you out. http://www.honda-desert.com/contactenos.php
Cuzco will be more difficult, and for sure a bit more expensive. I have been looking for a chain in Cuzco, but could not find it. In Lima I could!

Both Bolivia and Peru have great prices on tires. Pirrelli tires are made in Brazil, but actually sold cheaper in Peru and Bolivia. In Bolivia the best prices in all SA will be in Santa Cruz. Much more difficult elsewhere in the country.

In Peru, Cuzco, Lima, Pucalpa and Tarapoto will be your best bet. In Cuzco, just ask for the Honda parts store and on that same block and street will be 4 stores competeing with each other. I HIGHLY recommend the Pirrelli MT-21 RallyCross. It is an enduro tires that is quite aggressive, but runs (and lasts) good on the pavement. For your bike they will be in the neighborhood of $140 for both.

Cheers guys. I´m having a look round Lima for some suitable rubber - didn´t bother in Cusco as my current Mefo Explorers are wearing pretty well for some 15,000 kms - just starting to break up on the sides - so if I can I´d like to change them out before heading further north and uncertainties over supplies. I think I´ll change the chain at the same time (21k on that) and its starting to kink a bit too much (carrying a DID spare and sprockets).

Miraflores is a pleasant surprise - particularly as I am not much of a fan of cities.

I know it was impossible to get a Vstrom tyre anywhere in that part of the world, I ended up going down in size for the front, a 100/90 instead of 110/80

If you are going to Columbia, they produce vstroms there, can you wait? If not, look up the BMW bike shops, they use the exact same tyre and should be able to offer trailwings or similar, for TKC style I bought in Santiago

Got some MT60´s in the first place I went to (was recommended by a bloke who stopped his car for a chat - his company does work for Yamaha). Direli - in Surquillo. As noted above, prices are cheap. Also got them fitted and the chain and sprockets changed for 30 sols (in the in-house workshop, which runs as a separate concern) - I felt like I was cheating the guy! Ready to roll again!

Pirelli MT60 MT90 Tyre Prices Lima 2012
Definitely found them to be slightly cheaper in Bolivia. But not so much that you should worry about whether to change them here or there. The main thing is that (according to my experience) you change your tyres in Peru or Bolivia as they will be much cheaper than in Chile or Argentina.

I just bought a rear tyre from Desert Sport - Honda in Miraflores (460-480 Narcissa Colina, Miraflores, Lima).

Here are the prices in Soles quoted for Pirelli MT60 and MT90:

MT90 Scorpion 120/90/17 (64S): 215.35
MT90 Scorpion 90/90/21 (54V): 142.57
MT60 90/90/21 (54T): 137.05

MT60 120/90/17 they did not have.

They did have a range of other sizes including size 18.

Changing the tyre was an extra 20 Soles.
