Question Anyone coming directly from US or Europe to Argentina/Chile/Bolivia?

We had our digital camera stolen in São Paulo and so far I've not found a suitable camera replacement in Brazil (looked in Rio de Janeiro bigger shops and Campinas). I'm pretty sure we can't find it in Bolivia where we're going, too.

It's a very speciefic model we're looking for - the Canon A720IS because of the intervalometer that is programmable for it. Canon A720 IS is widely available in US and Europe and not an expensive or big camera in fact.

It's pretty useless to import it from US to Brazil coz of 100% toll (we'll pay twice the price), probably the same for the rest of South-American countries.

So anyone who's coming from US or Europe can you bring us a small camera? The model is Canon A720 IS. We just need the camera (and a 2-4GB memory card if possible, but not neccesary - memory card we can buy here too), you can bin the rest into trash can (the package, manuals, CDs etc), so the camera-only takes very little room. We'll gladly pay the money for the camera + the work/hassle to take it with you, in advance or on the spot in cash which ever you prefer.

We're currently in the middle of Brazil and ride to Bolivia and then to Argentina this and next month, thus can ride to meet and pick it up in any of those countries.

(or if any of the local South-Americans read this and know where to get this camera - please let us know!!! So far our search here has been hopeless...)

Send a private message or e-mail.

Thanks in Advance, Margus (& Kariina) - Ühel Teljel

Hey Margus
Ciudad del Este in Paraguay is well know as the place to buy electronics stuff. Only take care about to try all before to pay, and if you can go to buy it with a local better, mucha mafia around…… But prices use to be like Miami or just a little more.
Iquique in Chile also is cheap as it’s a Freeport.
Hope all is going well
I bet maybe I see you at the HU Meeting in Viedma
Regards to Karina
Saludos

Arriving in Chile on Christmas Day

Hi Margus,

My wife and I are arriving in Santiago on the 25th December. We are in Spain right now and luckily for you are visiting Gibraltar (damn cheap electronics!) soon.

Let me know if you need any help or do we arrive too late?

Take care,

DB

Hi guys,

Let's see if december will be doable for us. We'll try to let you know in couple of weeks if we make it to the Ciudad del Este and find it there as Javier recommended. If not, then I reckon the camera from Europe is in order. Will let you know about it then... When's the last time you can buy it before you leave?

Thanks, Margus

I would not take this advice. Ciudad del Este is a very sketchy place. I would not recommend spending any time more then you have to there.

Flying out from Europe

Hi Margus,

Our flight leaves, obviously, 24th December arriving Chile the day after.

We would need as much time as possible to find what you want. Or you find it online in a shop and we just go there. The week before we go we will be in France, not Spain, as we are flying from Paris.

We are a bit stressed doing our own things so if you can locate it that helps.
