Any easier selling in Chile?

As selling the bikes in Argentina could be complicated does anyone know if its easier in Chile to sell? As we still have the choice of heading towards Santiago.
cheers for all our help so far

You won't sell a bike in Chile registered outside of Chile unless it is offroad only.

You can sell in Chile, messy but possible

You can sell a foreign bike in Chile. Here's how:

Your buyer can travel into Argentina and then on into Bolivia on the original papers (UK V5 in this case) in your name as long as you give them a "permiso" to travel with the bike. I went down to a Notary with the buyer and made out a formal document with me giving him permission to take the bike into any South American country and even embark it to England. This completely legally enables travel over to Argentina at least.

Beyond Argentina the aduanas may insist that the legal Chilean permiso is not a legal document in that country but my buyer has got into Bolivia so far with no issues. In the case that they argue it all you have to do is go to the Chilean consulate in any given country for them to stamp it and it is then a legal document. You know the drill, the more legal looking docs with lots of stamps you wave the better your chances.

In the meantime the buyer sends off for a replacement V5 in his name, should get that within 4 weeks if you have someone at home who can receive and send it on.

Make sure you get the details of the exit from Chile to keep you clean with the Chilean customs, if you are staying here at ay rate.

Good luck

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
