Hi People, anyone got up to date info on the costs at the airport for bringing your bike into BA on a temporary import. Ride safe.

Usually you pay AMS cost which is around $35. This is a charge from the cargo airline to handle your documents at your destination. Other than that if you pick up your bike beyond the grace period (3-5 days) you're liable for storage charges at a daily rate.

It is advisable to stay at the airport the next day of your bike arrival.

That makes a pleasant change, I think it was about US$35.00 5 years ago so more beer coupons for the job for which the were invented. Thanks, ride safe.

p.s. Still going to have a crate going free on the 13th Sep. at the airport.

Maja

The information supplied before is completely wrong; you have to pay the charge from the cargo airline to handle your documents, the AWB or Air Waybill that is up to +/- U$D 100.-
Then you have to pay to the Airport for handle the cargo (box/bike) around U$D 200.- depends weight and sizes.
After the grace period at airport that is 24 hours you are liable for extra storage charges at a daily rate. This period start when they have what they call “closed system” means that the flight arrived, the plane is empty and all the information is in the customs system. The system can be closed from few hours after the landing up to next day.
As your bike will come in a crate as only one piece (what says in the ABW) they don’t will allow you to take the crate separated from the bike. If one piece comes one piece goes... And anyway for reuse they will ask for new fumigation and local certificates plus will charge for any future movement...
Remember you will need a local 3rd party Insurance.

Please if you can don’t forget the promised mag... hahaha beerThanks!!!
Saludos. See you soon...

That's more like what we have come to expect from customs, although in the UK they at least give you 5 days grace. I have the mag, actually the supplement is not too bad but the rest is as usual. Hope to see you on the 13th Sep with my moto, poorer but still happy. Ride safe.
