A cool place to stay in Venezuela...

Hi All,
I was recently in Venezuela (although sadly without my bike...)

I found this fantastic place to stay - Cachama Negra in Puerto Colombia, Choroni.
It's a couple of hours away from Caracas via the most amazing road (really wish I had my bike!!) check out this youtube vid of the road - YouTube - Caretera a ChoronÃ*

If you are shipping into Venezula from Panama or where ever and need to chill to get over the experience.....

The place is run by the ever friendly and supremely helpful Andrè (a dutch guy & biker - although bikeless at the mo') and out of the usual Venezuelan holiday times it's really chilled...
Andrè has a garage and small work space if needed and there's a choice of rooms/cabañas:
Check out the website: Habitaciones y casa vacacional en Choroní - Quinta Cachama Negra, posada en Choroní

The only word of warning is that there's no bank (yet) in the village so make sure you've got enough cash for your stay...that said, any excuse to ride back and forth along that mountain road is welcome...

hope that helps..

indeed there are lots of nice places to visit in Venezuela. The major problem is the bad press it receives.
All the roads along the coast are great, because there is a mountain range parallel to the coast. Road like Choroni described here and Cata are paved, from Colonia Tovar to Puerto Cruz is paved, to Chichirivichi de la Costa is half paved and half dirt, and to Puerto Maya is dirt, on the other side of Caracas, on the coast from Los Caracas to Higuerote is now paved but still nice, etc..

Thanks Zade!

Hi,

I'm André, the owner of Cachama Negra.
Zade, thanks for recomending my place. And it is true, the road is spectacular!
As for the bank, there is one bank still in construction, due to be opened around february (Well, this can take a little more, a few months ago they would open december 2008.....).
I will post an update on this thread, as soon as the bank is open for bussiness.

Bank's open for business

Hi,

As promised, I would let you know when the first ever bank in Choroní had opened its doors for the public.
Well the bank is open. It is located next to the busterminal in Puerto Colombia.
It is "Banco Nacional de Credito".
