Mohammed Attoubone (aka Balal) is a good adress. Most contacts will be managed by his brother Ibrahim. Beatrice, their contact in Switzerland, is very reliable person too.

And they have a very good guide: Hamid Salé.
I've travelled with him through Air and Ténéré in 2007 and it was a fantastic tour (but now the security in this area is not so good).

New Travel Agency Niger

Hi Bartoz,

I am at present in contact with Tuareg guide based in the Air Mountains who has just got a license to start his own travel agency (Anakom Voyages). He is young, very experienced and speaks and writes English perfectly well. In his latest e-mails he tells me that most Tuareg leaders are taking part in peace negotiations with the government and that Tuareg guides have a scheduled meeting with the government in the next couple of weeks to discuss what areas in Niger will be open to travellers in the near future. He sounds very positive about being able to travel in Niger soon. If you want his contact details send me a message. Cheers.Alberto

There was a peace accord struck between the government and several touareg groups in October. Problem with these peace efforts is that the touaregs are divided and there's noone speaking for them all. One or several groups may still be discontent and try to wreck the peace, as has happened in the past.
But several hundred rebels have returned to Agadez from Libya.
Would be great if the Tenere and the Air could be visited. We would be on our way.

Libya repatriates hundreds of rebels to Niger -radio | Reuters

"Having intially dismissed the rebels as bandits and smugglers, Niger's President Mamadou Tandja earlier this year accepted Libyan help in ending the conflict and has agreed to amnesty all rebels who disarm. Two rebel factions have agreed to disarm while a third, the FFR led by Rhissa Ag Boula, has said it wants to join the peace process but is not yet ready to lay down its weapons."

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
