Where to go?
 

Hello everybody

For the last 7 years we've been going to desert around Christmas and it was never hard to pick a destination: Tunesia, Lybia, Morocco, Egypt, Oman, Iran, we always had a great time. But where to go this year? We don't mind adventure and aren't paranoid, but we are no heroes either and standing the chance of being kidnapped (or worse) is just not our idea of a good time .

Algeria has been on our whish list for a long time, but is it realistic at present? I read on this forum that the area east of the TSH is fine, would that be Erg Occidental or the area further south? And the nothern part of Mauritania around Chinguetti, how about that? Last year was our first walking trip and that was a great experience, so surely there must be some small spot in this huge sahara where it's safe to go :)? Please advise!

If you decide to go to Algeria, the Grand Erg Occidental (west of the TSH) is safe indeed (among other regions). For walking/trekking, I can recommend you a very good guide in Timimoun, from where you have lots of options. PM me if you want his details.
