Where does the Dakar pass through a huge Canyon?

I remember in previous years watching the Dakar pass through a huge canyon with high very steep (vertical?) walls on both sides - the sides of the canyon are quite far apart, any idea where this is - Morocco? (I hope...)

Also any other tips on watching the Dakar - good viewing points etc will be appreciated we intend to watch it all through Morocco.

Dakar canyon

Two possibilities:

1- Oued el Abiod, south of terjit, near Atar
2- Oued LeHnouk, near Ouakchoda, south from above

El Abiod

HI Yves

I have made a little trip ( 20km) descending oued EL Abiod (Mauritania) in 2004 : very beautiful but the walls are not very vertical .
This oued is full of sand and this sand is going up along each sides beetween the rocky banks (like ski slopes).

Saharian salutations

Robert
