Where can i explore west and south Sahara without a guide??

Hi Guys...first time in the sahara but want to get into the desert and have a good look.

So as a solo rider i dont wish to have or pay for a 'guide' to see the beauty that is sahara.

It looks like Mauritania is the best bet to me but would like to see more...any other suggestions please???

Thx
Tim

Hey Tim. You can head towards the Erg Chegaga Dunes in Morocco, close to the Algerian border (25 miles), but that isn't deep Sahara. The Tunisian Sahara looks quite tastey too!

I can't specify any more locations, or even recommend a route as I have never been there, but hearing about my Granddad who was in the Desert Rats I have always had a fascination with North Africa and deserts, so I wish you the best of luck where ever you end up :thumbup1:

IMO you are right Tim. But as a first time solo rider it may even be too much. There are no short cuts between NDB and Atar, Atar-Tidjikja and so on. So while not the real thing in terms of distance and exposure, southern Morocco is easy to get to and a great place to get a feel for the whole business.
