Where in Africa can I sell an XT600?

I have never motorcycled outside Australia (my home) so I need a bit of help here.
Later this year I am planning the following trip: Fly one way to London, buy an XT600 and ride through France, Switzerland, Italy, boat to Tunisia, Tunisia, Algeria, Niger, Chad, Sudan and Ethiopia. If I can I will ride to UAE via Yemen and Oman (has anyone done this recently?).
I will try to avoid getting a carnet, which means that I may have to cut out some of these countries. The reason being is that I want to sell the motorbike somewhere along the way without having to go back to England.
Which of the above countries require a carnet? Is there a definitive list somewhere on the Internet?
I have read stories on the net about people buying cars in Germany and selling them on the border of Mauritania in "no man's land". I don't want to do this and would prefer to do it all legally. Which countries can I do this in?
Finally, are there different rules for Australians than Europeans?

For the final leg you mentioned, I would go straight to Oman rather than into Yemen. Although Yemen is a fascinating and fantastic place, a lone person on a motorbike could be rather vunerable.

The roads in Oman are superb. If you're into off-roading (which I assume you are), you have a fantastic oppotunity to travel from Salalah in the Dhofar region of Oman (the southernmost region) almost all the way to Muscat off tarmac. Even along this route, the graded roads are superb and fuel is easily available, so you would have no real hassles there.

If you want more information about Oman and the UAE, please E-Mail me.

Good luck,
