What happened to Brit north of Faya?

Chris, any more info on this guy you mentioned on www.sahara-overland.com? Any other updates on the situation in Northern Chad?

"I know of a Brit north of Faya right now, who promised to come back with news. (Just heard... he didnt make it)."

We tried in Ndjamena about six months ago to arrange with local guides to go into northern Chad. They would go to Fada and Faya in a loop. They wouldn't go further north than this because they thought it was unsafe. To go up to Faya, Fada was going to cost something like $160 a day. To go north at all requires permits from the Military.
Have met a couple of Germans in other parts of Africa who had come down from Libya without paperwork, done a loop and gone back up but anywhere where even the locals don't want to go because they think its unsafe has to rate in my book as fairly serious. As far as we could ascertain, no one in Ndjamena would go up to Tibesti, even on their own, let alone with a bunch of foreigners.
