I know that this questions have been answered several times before but...


He are going to Senegal and Mauritania in summer. What are he temperatures that he are going to catch?

In Mauritania, beside the atlantic rout, we are "just" planning to go to Atar and Chinguety. Do you think that it will be to hot to our land rover series?

karellevrau you give up the route along the railway to Atar because of the temperatures or because you were running out of time?

Came back from Mauritania after spending 3 weeks there in October. It was very very hot, and most of the locals didn't do anything between 10 - 2 (and this was in Nkt!). Atar's much worse.

Our Landcruiser HJ60 overheated on the pistes, so we took out the thermostat and made a bodge to the radiator fan so that it spun full speed all the time. This did the trick.

August in a LandRover? in Chingueti / Atar? Good luck.

Series L/Rover will surely overheat unless you do some mods. Simple ones include electric fan in addition to fixed fan and replacement of the standard fixed fan blade with a 6 cylinder version. Series L/Rover (4 cylinder petrol) overheated in the Tenere (Niger) with the standard fan in December (37 degrees air temp). The mods seem to have had this sorted on the subdequent trips we have done.

I have a lightweight with a military 8 blade fan and a oil cooler. do you think I still have problems?

I read some were that with the temperatures we are like to find we need to drink 10 liters of water per day! is it simple to find "good" water to drink near Atar, Chingeti, Nouadhibou, Nouamrhar, etc...

I know you can buy bottled water in Atar and Tidjikja. There are also wells in the desert in this region but you will need rope and a bucket and system of filtration / purification.

If you stay at at the camp sites in Dakhla or Nouadhibou they will have water on tap. It is fine though a little salty.

You can also buy bottled water at Nouadhibou and Nouamghar. Generally the smaller the village the more expensive it will be to buy and sometimes they run out.
