Visas available in Rabat

Mauritania visas are no longer issued in Rabat - now available in Casablanca (Mauritania embassy is close to the campsite).

Mali visa takes around 1 hour in Rabat, costs 350DH + 2 passport photos.

We have applied for Sudan visa in Rabat. They have phoned Khartoum for approval and say to return in 1 week to collect them(after waiting 10 weeks in London we decided to try en route). We haven't had to pay anything so far. Will let you kow what happens with these (sounds like N'Djamena is still an option).

We are on South African passports.

Are the Mauretanian visas still easy to get in Morocco? How mutch are they in Casablanca?

The RIM Embassy in Rabat is easy to find being only 1/2 mile or so of the main North/South highway, parking is easy outside and there was no hassle (N33 33.7 W7 38.7). I had already got a visa in London... they were great, but for me getting to London was a hassle, waste of a day and of course an extra £40 per visa.

I don't know where the campsite is (we try not to use them). We found a nice spot a few miles to the south in the dunes at about N33 33.1 W7 45.0

BTW, people without RIM visas were being turned away at the 1st RIM border post, there was no chance of getting a visa at the border in November.... it's a long way back!

Excuse my ignorance but what does RIM stand for?

tifua 30 Nov 2002 20:29

RIM = Republique Islamic de Mauritanie

The campsite is about 5 minutes walk from the embassy and is called "Camping l'Oasis". It's reasonable and has hot showers available for and extra 10 Dirham.

You should get to the embassy by around 9am. You fill out a form and hand in photocopies of your passport and then return at around 3pm to collect.

All times are GMT +1. The time now is 11:52.
