Visa for Mauritania and Mali on the road?

Are visa for Mauritania still available in Rabat? And what about visa for Mali? Still possible at the border and in Nouackchott. I can imagine they will get more strict now, after the abductions.

I go my visa at the Malian Embassy (N18 06.487 W15 58.711) Nouakchott in November09, same day and took a couple of hours, can’t remember the price but it wasn’t much. My 30days started from date of entre. I was there just before the abductions so can’t say what it is like now… would think you can still get Mauritania visa at Rabat but not sure, don’t wait to get to the border, we had to wait 6days while someone went back to Rabat…

The guys doing the Banjul Challenge have been getting their Mauritania visas in Rabat over the last few days. Procedure seems to be to get there early, queue 2 hours to put the application in, go do some sightseeing, then pick up the visa later in the day.

No problems with the Mauri visa; put the form in this morning at 9 pretty much on the dot, all done by 9:30 (340DHS, copy of passport, passport, applicaiton form (available there) and 2 passport photos).

They told me to come back at 5, got there at 4:30 and it was ready for collection. No hassles and no real stress.
